Extra Credit Reading Notes: Ancient Egypt, Part A

 Osiris by Donald A Mackenzie

Ra had ascended to the heavens. He could no longer stand to be on the Earth because of age and of time. But, there was a birth. He was magnificent among the savages. He was wise and brilliant and would do amazing things. Osiris was born in a time of darkness. Many people lived in disarray. They were murdering and living lawlessly. But, he restored order. He created good and binding laws. Then, he taught them how to be a functional society. He, along with his consort Iris, taught them how to survive. Then, he went on to teach other nations. He did not gain followers through conquering, but through justice, peace, and wise teachings. But, his brother, Set, was not happy for his successes. He was jealous and had evil in his heart. While Osiris was gone, he decided to stir a rebellion. He gained up to 70 followers. Upon the return of Osiris, they threw a feast. Set arrived with a golden chest that were the king's exact dimensions. After the night and the party had run it's course, Set challenged everyone. He said "anyone who can fit perfectly in the chest, may keep it". Of course, there was only one who would fit. Man after man tried it. Until King Osiris came to try it. As he laid down, fitting perfectly, Set's followers slammed the top down and set it with iron. There Osiris took his last breath. He was set down the Nile River. His wife, Isis, was determined to find him. She searched high and low with the guidance of Ra. In her absence, Set became his usurper. Chaos ran freely again. It was a step back into the savage days before Osiris had set order. Finally, Isis found him in Syria. She begged the king for his body back. She returned with his body and with a newborn baby. However, the reunion did not last long. For Set grabbed his brother back and chopped him into 14 pieces to be thrown to the crocodiles. While people still prayed to Osiris, no one heard from him again. Until, one night his son had a vision from his father with one simple task. Overthrow Set.

Introduction to Me

Hi! I am a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I am studying psychology with a health and exercise science minor. I love psychology because I think people are very interesting. I do not think people realize how similar they are to other people. I think studying psychology has helped me immensely learn how to work with and adapt to those around me both in personal relationships and in work relationships. Over my two years, I have taken some really interesting courses. I think my favorite so far has been social psychology because I think that there is a lot to be learned about those around us. However, my most challenging class was anatomy. I learned so much about the human body and how phenomenal it is that all of these parts work together to create and function us as human beings. As interesting as it was, it was an extremely difficult course. I was pushed to the point of stress I didn't even know I had. I am a better student because of anatomy but in the moment I was overly str...

Week Twelve Story: The Horned Women

The Horned Women  by Joseph Jacobs There was a woman who lived in a cottage. She lived with her family and her staff. One night, after they had all gone to bed she stayed up preparing wool. It was a quiet night until she heard a knock.  "Who is there?" she asked. "I am the Witch of One Horn" she answered. Assuming it was one of her neighbors in need of help, she answered the door. To her dismay, it was not a neighbor. A woman with a horn on her forehead entered the room.  "Where are the others?" she grumbled "They always take so long".  The homeowner was very confused. The witch had made herself at home. It was not long until she heard another knock on the door. Reluctantly she answered it. Standing outside was a woman with two horns on her forehead. The witch charged in to join her sister. Within the hour, ten more arrived. The last having twelve horns on her forehead. They had made a large circle in the room. They were spinning a thread on thei...
