Time Strategies

I am awful at time management. I either so every assignment in one setting or I completely wait until I am flustered. There is very rarely an in between. However, I have a few things that make it easier for me to get things done. I love check lists. They are a boost in my mood when I get to cross things off but they also provide a list that you cannot ignore. I read the article about Psychology of Checklists . I thought it was very interesting because I understand the happy boost that comes from completing an item. Some days, I write things I did while I was out of the house just to make sure I get to cross it off. I know sounds crazy but it works and it makes me feel more productive and in the mood to be more productive. I, also, love agenda planners. I like to see my week at a far glance and then tackle each day as it comes. I think it is important to develop your own system and see what works for you. This semester, with everything being online, is going to be difficult. It is up t

Technology

As we begin this journey, I am already so excited. I enjoy writing out my thoughts and how a story made me feel. I think it is important to be able to express that. As I look through the tools, I see many that I am already familiar with. I use word count for many classes and many assignment, especially on canvas. My use of spell check and word count are frequent. I am excited to learn how to use images and urls to ensure that I am not plagiarizing or stealing someone else's work.  This picture shows a break down of how to examine word count but also the other things included in papers such as characters. Assignments

After looking through the assignments, I am most excited about the tales. I think that is what intrigued me to take this course as a whole. The stories and the legends are amazing and they were passed down through so many generations. I love mythology as a whole, especially considering how closely the stories relate to one another but are from completely different cultures.  This picture is of Greek gods, taken from the Manual of Mythology. Growth Mindset

Growth mindset is the idea that you can better yourself. You are not stuck in a certain place or in a certain mindset. Everything can change, everything is fluid. However, you have to be willing to work towards it and to keep your mind open to the things that are changing. This is a topic that is widely discussed in the psychology field. I learn about it at least twice a semester. Every time I do, I take the time to reflect. Am I still allowing myself to be open? Do I have a fixed mindset in these aspects of my life? I think it is very important for us to reflect consistently otherwise we fall back into the stationary mindset. This picture, posted by Jessica Ottewell, shows the difference that an open versus fixed mindset can have on students in particular but it can range to everyone. Source:  Flickr

Introduction to Me

Hi! I am a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I am studying psychology with a health and exercise science minor. I love psychology because I think people are very interesting. I do not think people realize how similar they are to other people. I think studying psychology has helped me immensely learn how to work with and adapt to those around me both in personal relationships and in work relationships. Over my two years, I have taken some really interesting courses. I think my favorite so far has been social psychology because I think that there is a lot to be learned about those around us. However, my most challenging class was anatomy. I learned so much about the human body and how phenomenal it is that all of these parts work together to create and function us as human beings. As interesting as it was, it was an extremely difficult course. I was pushed to the point of stress I didn't even know I had. I am a better student because of anatomy but in the moment I was overly str

Storybook Favorites

The storybook that I read first was the  Grimm Villains . I had known this topic because I grew up reading the fairy tales and the bedtime stories. However, I never considered the other point of view. Each of these dives deeper into how the villain was portrayed and decided to tell the story from their point of view. I thought this was a very unique and interesting point to take. I liked the way the student set up their page. It was easy to navigate. It separated the stories but within each of the actual tabs the others were weaved into it. I appreciated the background images and how it represented the true character of the Grimm stories.  My second story book was Norman Mythology . This was one of my favorites. I loved the modern retelling of some of the favorite fairy tales of childhood. I was familiar with the story chosen but I had never been told it in context of people in my town. It was a fun retelling because it brought the stories not only to life, but to Norman. The introduct

My Favorite Place

Taylor Park Reservoir, Colorado, USA. Taken by Jay Gannett Source:  Flickr Taylor Park is special to me because my family used to take a trip every year. It was a long 16 hour drive with all 5 of us crammed into a car but I will cherish the memories (and try to forget the car rides) forever.
